Trash Disco was a radio show in Melbourne Australia that aired every Friday night from 10pm til midnight on community radio station 88.6 Plenty Valley FM. The show ended on its tenth birthday on October 3 2025.
It featured the obscure, the alternative and the strangely familiar from 80s New Wave and Alternative and 90s Britpop. The first half hour featured new music from your favourite 80s & 90s artists and newer artists who have a similar sound.
At around 10.30pm we had Weekly Weird Al. After that we played a couple of tracks off our feature album and the rest was random bliss… requests were highly encouraged…
The flow could take the show anywhere – a bunch of hits by well known bands, or a bunch of album tracks from bands hardly anyone has heard of. Rule of thumb is, if it’s on commercial radio, it probably won’t be here.
The first Friday of each month featured a theme, randomly selected by me or suggested by the listeners.
And when there were five Fridays in a month, the FIFTH Friday was Super Happy Fun Night where the normal format was thrown out the window and it was a three hour party!
It was a good reason to stay home on a Friday night!
